The ProjectGet Out Your Bard – Shakespeare in Schools Project
Bristol Old Vic in partnership with Bristol Children & Young People’s Services are taking Shakespeare into Bristol schools in the form of live rehearsals with professional actors.
These interactive sessions will give young people an opportunity to see how a Shakespeare production is brought to the stage, as well as giving them the chance to throw in ideas, problem solve and take decisions and direct their very own new production of Macbeth.
The piece will be part workshop, part performance, part genuine rehearsal.
Over the 2 week rehearsal and preparation period (at the Bristol Old Vic) we will rehearse a number of moments/scenes from Macbeth to performance level, while also looking at some alternate versions of the same moments focusing how the decisions made in the rehearsal room can change the way the play is performed. Our aim is to make these performed moments as vibrant and exciting as possible as a real introduction to Shakespeare as live performance.
The workshop element will take the actors and young people through exercises, games and techniques we use to solve problems and make effective our performance.
The genuine rehearsal element is in that we also want the young people to contribute in a structured but real way to the process, as well as seeing our rehearsed options. So we will encourage and include their input (direction) into the rehearsal of the final scenes to create their own unique performance.
Who
3 male and 1 female actors in their 20/30s. Enthusiastic, committed, open and energetic.
Some experience of Shakespeare essential, experience of young people not essential
Fee
£426.50 per week (Equity rates)
